Home Made Apple Sauce
You will need:
- Ten large Granny Smith apples, or other good cooking apples {not too sweet.}
- About one cup of sugar, the amount of sugar depends on the apples you are using, and of course your own taste.
- Cinnamon, to taste.
- A large pot, we use the same one that we mash our potatoes in.
- Water, in the pot.
- Apple or potato peelers.
- At least one knife.
- Spoon and plate, for tasting.
Wash and peel the apples, I find it works best if you start at the top of the apple and peel in a spiral.
Young girls used to say the alphabet while peeling in this way, and if the peel broke the letter they stopped on was supposed to be the first initial of their future husband. You do not have to do this if you do not want to, I do not usually.
After you have peeled the apples cut each apple one at a time into quarters, cut the core out of each quarter, cut the quarter in half and cut into four or five chunks. Repeat with each quarter, and each apple. Place the cut apples in the pot, and add water; it depends on you to figure out how much water is needed, every batch is different. You can also add water as you go along.
Place the pot on the stove and turn to medium heat. Cook until the apples are just getting soft, and add the cinnamon. {to taste.} Continue cooking until the apple chunks start to fall apart. Remove from the heat and carefully transfer to large serving bowls. Serve and enjoy!
